Worked on the cover, fixed many of the advices – especially the last page- added more white space

Interior spreads and color palette

The colors of my images are black and white mainly, do in those pages I wanted to inverse it. Red I choose because it was a good contrast color.

My font is Universe, because that is what I used on my resume, I played with upper and lower case

Sketches and rough spreads

The current mood I am going for is Modern: This is mainly because of the style of my portfolio content. I started by googling modern, modern architecture, coffee shops, modern art, photography. The main thing is that modern deals with a pop of color.

Currently I have a grid of three columns going. This is mainly because of the size of my images in proportion with the 8.5 in size page. My largest issue is the amount of content I have and its not constant with the amount of text vrs. images I have from one spread to the next. I also created a constant page tab, which I did because I am use to doing that with my architecture plots.

Grid variations

manuscript: Having the image be the largest part – usually seen for the first page of a multiple page arctile. The words are placed on top of the image to allow more space to make them larger.

Column: Allowing the words to be the main part of the page. The images are enlarged and cropped – both similar in saturation and color, so it creates an even border for the three.

Modular: Using the larger images, allows for a smaller picture on the right hand side to create the header for the article.

 

Tracing grids

 

-What’s a grid? A structuring content with the usage of horizontal and vertical components to create a layout.  Examples are singular columns and range to multi-column to create a complex organization of images and text.

-What are margins and why are they important?Margins are the spaces that surrounds the text of the body to centralize and contain the set of text and images. They are important because are the main grid for a layout as a means to control the secondary set of grids – and allow for a max of min of the space alloted for the information.

-Which sample design do you like best from this chapter? Why? “Modular Grid” because it combines the “hangline” and consistent vertical and horizontal division.  There is a consistency to the grid that allows for the users and readers to understand the layout. Because of its “modular quality” it simplistic however, can allow for a lot of variation.

-What grid(s) are used to layout the “Grid” chapter of this book? Modular grid system- with the proportions of the golden ratio.

-What type of grid is best for simple documents? For simple documents, the single column grid works great. That is mainly been engrained from the usage of using Microsoft word with its single columns and usually symmetric margins.
