Final poster and ticket

March 8, 2012

In previous Iterations, I had played around with a multitude of different techniques – such as scale, value, rotation, etc.  The most important eye-catching aspect I wanted for the poster was for someone to notice the VH1 music company. That’s what will draw the audience into knowing that its a music concert and then they could farther explore with it. If that doesn’t catch their eye the “Best of the 90s” will. Because what else of the 90s is there other than music.

The H is kind of left with not color filler and only with a thin black outline. I realized that at first I may have wanted the VH1 to stand out, however an audience will know the “best of the 90s” so that is kind of contrasted to stand out. The H I utilized to be the divider/ information holder to the different available concerts. It centered and the artist is bolder.

The Ticket uses the same design over, the filler is inverse for the ticket. This was just a change because I wanted variance with the Ticket. because of the sale of the ticket it wouldn’t work horizontal nor vertical so I rotated and placed it off the page slightly.

1. First attempt I am trying to make a logo for VH1. Emphasizing the V

this is a play on the ticket for it. just focusing on the logo

Again The V is that I am most interested in for the logo. the second heirtachy is then the 90. The extension of the V off the page plays with making the page extended then focusing the eye on the 90’s

The VH1, was not a finalized design, so in these designs I wanted to play up (90) because that would draw the users eye to the era.

Repetition of the 90s to make that stand out. However grade it back so I can layer it.

The background Black and see if the letter stand outs. However I think It may be too hard to read.

Rotation and Scale: Pull the page apart, however place the word on the left size to concentrate it.

Playing to see what layer works better together. Playing largely with scale.

Pulling apart the letter. Allows it to be the background. Then creating a grid to separate the foreground. This is currently The one that I am playing with the most for the final

Poster typography

The alignment of the spacing is key where the chunking is the presenter/ location and artist. The Artist are bolded because they are where the eye wants to be drawn . The contrast of the Universe styes is what makes it stand out more.

Alignment is still key. I wanted to play on the variation of font.

For the first attempt I was playing with mainly the VH1 logo. Then emphasizing the role of the 90s. the second Hierarchy is placed on the artist with the date and time placed vertically to approx. take up the same Cap height. The location and the date are the same font stye and height.

The second attempt using roughly the same logic in heirarchy. The emphasizes is on the 90s rather than VH1. But size and font of the artist and date are still the same. With this variation I wanted to play on pulling VH1 out of the frame to create more tension for the poster and by placing the artist and date on the left side to draw the eye in that direction.

The Third Poster pulls the poster outwards to the left and right direction. There is a variation of value which plays up VH1 and “Best of the 90s”. The location is based near the top and is read easily because of the base line of the “1”. Between the values chosen and the size it helps create comfort.
